Social and Charity

Social

An important part of Freemasonry is the social aspect. The members of the Lodge enjoy social time following their regular meetings during the year. We also arrange a number of other social occasions. These might include a lunchtime social at a public house or a local restaurant in the area, a summer barbecue or an evening function in a restaurant. The number of social occasions and the type of events tends to change from year to year depending on who is the Worshipful Master for that year.

Our Ladies are a vital part of our lives and we bring them along to our social meetings as often as we can. Some of the Ladies also meet up for their own social functions from time to time. Some Ladies also developed an interest in The Craft themselves and have chosen to join Women’s Freemasonry (see the links at the foot of this website).

Once in every year we organise a Ladies Festival which is a black-tie evening dinner function and is well supported by Lodge members and their guests. This is usually a grand occasion, the Ladies wear Ball Gowns and there is dancing and/or entertainment.

Social occasions are an important part of every Lodge and you will find that most of us also attend the social functions of other Lodges.

We may hold social occasions at the Masonic Hall or at another location within the City or at a more rural location.

Charity

Charity is a central theme of Freemasonry. Every Lodge, either alone or as a part of the wider Craft, makes donations to local, regional, national and international causes. All of the money that we raise comes from within our organisation.

National statistics are very important and remarkably impressive. A recent study found that 75% of all Freemasons take part in civic or charitable activities, compared to only 31% of non-Freemasons, in a matched geodemographic profile.

In 2020 we raised more than £42m for charity and have given more than 18.5 million hours of our time in unpaid social and civic volunteering.
